Do you know, you can't order online from them without agreeing to be sent their catalogue and to be charged £3.50 for the privilege! And when you try to ring a local branch of Next you get put through to a call centre in another country. And no, they can't nip downstairs and have a look in the stock room for you.
Nynke Douma has this to say about Next:
"Consequently, dividends were up 67 per cent from 21p in 2000 to 35p in 2004. Over the same period, dividends as percentage of EPS decreased 16.7 per cent; from 55 per cent to 38 per cent. As opposed to paying dividends to investors, Next’s net profits are thus increasingly spent on share buybacks and the creation of new store space."
