I did it again didn't I?

I left it too long. The problem with having a blog, is that if you leave it a day or two, you seldom want to come back and update it.

Typical then that in my absence, events have taken place of almost mind boggling importance, namely the death of Michael Jackson.

The first album I ever purchased was Bad. I don't mean it was rubbish of course, I mean it was the Michael Jackson album "Bad". Sorry for that rubbish joke.

I was 10 years old and wildly stupid. So stupid that I had decided that I could dance like Michael Jackson. My brother would egg me on and sometimes make me attempt this in front of his friends. At the time I thought they were impressed. Of course, now, in the cold light of 22 years later, I realise they were laughing, laughing at the sight of a 10 year old white kid thought he could dance like Michael Jackson and therefore looked like a total and utter cock.

I really liked the Bad album, it was what got me interested in collecting my own music and not going along with what my brother liked. I even liked the film Moonwalker, even though it is utter shite. I didn't mind that he turned into a car, a rabbit and a giant robot, that is a real fan. Also worth noting that Joe Pesci is in it as the baddie and Sean Lennon is one of Michael's "kids." This all seemed fine to me, I was a fan and just watching him move. I suppose he was our generation's Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire. It wasn't just the music, but the presentation too. The dancing, the videos and the state of the art effects.

I don't think I was alone in going off of him pretty quickly. I just couldn't identify with him, he was just too odd. He also seemed to be obsessed with the fact that he was magic. The Black and White video even starts (Or ends, I cant remember) with him as a puma and then transforming into MJ. Then there was the giant statue of himself floating down the Thames, the endless music videos to increasingly blander songs. It was a steady decline into an even bigger circus. It quickly then became about everything but the music. It then became about Jackson the extroverted suspected paedophile. The music was washed away, along with his career.

The last album had that video with Marlon Brando (again charging about 3 million a second, how did he get away with that!?) in it for about 2 minutes and Jackson pretty much hiding behind a hat all the way through it.

In the last few years he began to resemble some sort of weird ghoul, it is all a very sad story, but at least he is out of the public eye now. Even though his memorial service was live on TV and broadcast to millions.

I couldn't help feeling that the whole thing seemed more like it was his birthday than his funeral. The large quantity of kids coming on at the end probably wasn't the smartest move. After all, out of sight, out of mind, you wouldn't have people dressed as bottles of whiskey at Shane Macgowan's funeral.

I have joined the growing number of iphone addicts. I know, it is very boring and I am sure you all know someone with one and you hate them, but, I don't care. I love my iphone, I love it as much as someone who hasn't had a hit single for a while claims to love Micheal Jackson at his funeral.

Anyway, This is how I will always remember him, deep in my heart...




But seriously folks...



Hopefully, I will not be away as long this time.

I enjoyed the funeral; especially the part when the Jacksons carried the coffin. It brought back memories of the first time I saw Cool Runnings.
