"Sunday Bloody Sunday. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you just think 'Sunday, bloody Sunday!" - Alan Partridge, 1997
What a strange Sunday today was, one of those days in which you literally have loads that you could be doing, but we couldn't be arsed with doing anything at all, so we didn't and ended up bored. In the end I drove the wife and I to her parents house just for the practice, which was really good. I went over a few roundabouts and even coped with a hardcore stalling incident at a junction with someone behind me. These are the sort of incidents that really separate the wheat from the chaff. I stalled yes, but by god I was soon motoring again. Not bad for someone that has only had 2 official lessons from a small boy.
2 lessons? I hear you ask. Yes, 2. I was supposed to have my third on Saturday, but I once again, for the second time in 2 months, became victim to a stomach bug.
I awoke Saturday morning at about 7am feeling sick, every joint aching, dehydrated and generally like total and utter shit. So I contacted my child prodigy instructor and let him know that I was likely to either be sick on him or worse, he advised it was probably best I postponed for this week. Luckily, this morning, when I woke up I was much better and life could continue, although, I still haven't eaten much more than crackers in 2 days. I did use my sick time constructively though, I watched both series of "I'm Alan Partridge" which is without doubt my favourite sit-com and really assisted with those dark hours of gloom. Coogan really is a legend. I also watched a curious new vampire film from Sweden called "Let the right one in" Which is not too bad, if a little long, mind you, during it I felt so sick and all the blood and stark images just served to add to my sadness.
The good news at the moment is that my diet/fitness regime is still motoring on nicely. I have lost a stone now and am really starting to feel a thousand dollars (not too far from my target of 1 million) and am looking forward to a summer of fun.
Has anyone noticed the alarming pattern of amazing and outstanding programme output from HBO? Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos and best of all, The Wire. We have just started watching The Wire again and it is difficult to explain just how immersing and all consuming of your attention this programme really is. If you have never seen it, track it down immediately.
I would like to mention something that is annoying me at the moment. I am pretty sure that I am the only person that this does annoy and I am also pretty sure it will make me sound sad, but never the less, it is annoying me. All of the Bond films are slowly being released on Blu-Ray and, for some reason, they have chosen to release them with re-jigged covers that are fucking awful. Why change the original posters? They are just so classic and just so cool. Why!? Stop getting Bond wrong!
Has anyone else noticed how addictive both Road and Street Wars can be on Sky 1? We often find ourselves watching them. I think this says more about us than anything else.
Right, off to see Watchmen tomorrow night, I will let you know what it is like.
