Or, a world gone wrong

As mentioned in a previous entry, I love comedy. So, when I saw that there had been an on-line poll to list the UK's top 10 comedians, I was interested to see the results.
I wish I hadn't looked now. What is wrong with people?? The top ten consists of :
1. Peter Kay
2. Lee Evans
3. Alan Carr
4. Catherine Tate
5. Dawn French
6. Rowan Atkinson
7. Al Murray
8. Jack Dee
9. Eddie Izzard
10. Frankie Boyle

Let's break that down. Peter Kay, I can see that, he is a funny guy and I have enjoyed his live stuff before, so I guess, in a world gone wrong, he is an acceptable number one.
Lee Evans? Sorry, no, he is a cunt. If people really want to watch someone running around endlessly making stupid noises and shrieking, go to the monkey enclosure at the zoo, at least the shit they throw is funny.
Alan Carr, again, I can see why he is in this list, so no qualm there.
Catherine Tate. What the fuck?? How is she a comedian? Has anyone watched her programme? It's just a very watered down Victoria Wood, it is barely amusing, just catch phrases and make up, sorry, but it just pisses me off as it is fuel to people who have no personality, so they can go to work and say, "Am I bovverd" when they feel it is appropriate. I bet Catherine Tate cant believe her luck, she is now considered to be some sort of comedy genius, this could only happen in a world gone wrong.
Dawn French?? What has Dawn French done of any note in the last 5 years?? The Vicar of Dibley?? Exactly.
Rowan Atkinson. I just cant explain this one. I mean, yes, Blackadder put a lot of credit in his bank, but Bean, for me, has been withdrawing said funds and blowing it in our faces for too long now. Again, hasn't really done anything for a long time, so why he is on the list, I don't know.
The rest of the list I can kind of see, at least they are working comics with something to offer. I wish I could say it ends there, but it doesn't. The spastastic British public have drawn up a top ten of their least favourite comedians:
1. Jo Brand
2. Jonathan Ross
3. Victoria Wood
4. Ricky Gervais
5. Harry Hill
6. Jimmy Carr
7. Paul Merton
8. Russell Brand
9. Spike Milligan
10. Alan Bennett

Now, I won't argue with Jo Brand being top, I think that is spot on. I can also see why Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand are in there, in the current climate, what with people being stupid. That aside, I have no idea why the rest are in there. Are we supposed to believe that Victoria Wood is not as good as Catherine Tate? That Harry Hill is not as interesting or inventive as Lee Evans? That Paul Merton is a lesser comic compared to Rowan Atkinson? Ricky Gervais is not as good as Dawn French?? Spike Milligan and Alan Bennett, you know, two of the corner stones of modern comedy writing, are in the shade when compared to Peter Kay? I mean, come on people? Is this the Britain I live in now??
Sadly, yes, I think it is.
